Ok first off I'm not too smart with hacking and programming things.
That being said, this is what I'm trying to do. I have my stock steering wheel stereo controls working on my mk2 by using one of those PAC steering wheel remote adapters. I have mapped the rio remote buttons for volume up and down to the steering wheel volume up and down.
The current behavior is each press of the volume up/down translates into a small increment of actual volume up/down, and holding the volume up/down seems to repeat the command and gives a slow progression of volume increase/decrease.
I have added the following to my config.ini :

[ir_translate]
Vol+=Vol+,Vol+,Vol+,Vol+,Vol+
Vol-=Vol-,Vol-,Vol-,Vol-,Vol-

As expected, this generates a greater change of volume with each push of volume up/down. However, when I hold down the volume button it still increases at the same old slow rate.

Any ideas on how to have the volume change quicker when holding the button?

Maybe use a Vol+.L and Vol-.L? This is just a guess, though.

Bitt is probably right. The long presses are handled in IR_translate separately. Make sure to read the notes in the FAQ about the ordering of the items in the ini file.

Although I think what this will do is cause a 1sec delay before your short volume presses are registered. Not sure.

Ok I finally got around to checking this out. The Vol-.L and Vol+.L don't change the long press behavior, and I ordered them correctly. I added ",null" to the long press and it causes the 1 sec. delay described, and then will continue increasing/decreasing the volume even if the button is released. Still does this at the original, slow rate though.
Out of curiosity, is there a difference between "Vol+" and "VolUp"? And how do I get the volume to increase in greater steps when changed from the knob?

This was a known bug in one of the older releases of hijack that has since been fixed. What version are you running?

I don't know the exact version, but it was the latest available 2-3 weeks ago. I also have the latest empeg software.

The bugfix I am referring to was more recent than that. I think you should upgrade to the latest Hijack and try your IR translations again. They might work.

Well I have v333 now and the behavior is the same. I tried Vol+.L=Vol+.L inserted before the normal Vol+ line and it still changes the volume at the slow rate. Is there a separate function controlling the volume rate of change?

Mmm.. the "repeat rate" for a longpress is determined inside the player software, so I don't think translating it is gonna make much difference here.

Perhaps someday I'll tackle an alternative method of handling this.. like maybe just completely hijack the volume control into Hijack. Period.

Cheers

That would be sweet! My money is on release #438. Hopefully sooner if I sacrifice a virgin to the hijack gods. Er, hijack god.

And that's "M'Lord" to you!

Nice. Then we can hack it so that it goes up to eleven.
